OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - It all started last year when Chef Bob Newell did not have a lot going on in the kitchen, and he decided to start making meals for families since restaurants were closed due to Covid.

Knowing most people wanted to spend more time with their family than cooking in the kitchen, Newell decided to continue the orders this year. He says he plans on making it a tradition for Thanksgiving from here on out. Newell says he wanted to do it for others, “Let me do the cooking. I can do the pies, let me do the meals. I have a huge kitchen.”

Last year 124 pies were sold along with roughly 90 to-go meals, and this year Newell says he is hoping to get up to 140 orders.

Anyone that wants to order a meal for their family can find the menu on the Bridge View Center website and call (641)684-7000. Pick-up will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
