Ottumwa and Fairfield prepare to light up the holiday season on Friday with special events

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -The holiday spirit is growing across southeast Iowa. On Friday, two events to light up the holiday season.

Main Street Ottumwa’s Lights of Love tree lighting is Friday, November 26 at 5:30 pm in Central Park.

It will be filled with memorial trees decorated with red bows and a card identifying the honoree, family, or business gifting the tree. 

Each honoree will be announced as the trees are illuminated.

The lighting ceremony is free to attend, and the event will be live-streamed on Facebook for those who cannot attend in person.

In Fairfield, you can see its town square come to life!

The Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 26th, 2021 at Central Park in Fairfield.

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes this festive tradition with the lights being turned on at 6:00 pm.

The Fairfield High School Choir will set the mood by singing Holiday music at 5:30 pm.

The Chamber Christmas Committee chooses one citizen, who best exemplifies the holiday spirit, and presents them with the opportunity to throw the switch on the lights and for the season. This citizen will be announced at 5:55 pm so the lights can be turned on at 6:00 pm sharp.

Santa can be found in the Santa House listening to the children share their hopes for the holiday season. There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides around the square for the kids.
