Oskaloosa Christmas tree farm preps for busy opening weekend
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KYOU) - Thanksgiving officially kicks off the holiday season! And Diane and Andrew Davis, owners of the Scotch Hill Christmas Tree Farm, are ready for all the holiday action.
The two are gearing up for a big opening day on their farm in Oskaloosa, Iowa after a sell-out weekend last year.
“Last year was our busiest year yet. That first weekend, we sold all the trees that we could handle so that we could be sure we had trees for this year. With it being Covid, families were able to get outside and participate. Last year, it took us by surprise, we were open and closed in a matter of three days,” Diane said of the engrossed season.
This comes during a time in what many are calling a national Christmas tree shortage. However, it doesn’t appear to be the case according to the Davis family.
They say while they aren’t immediately impacted by the shortage they know other growers here in Iowa trying to supplement their supply saying, “We only have so many and because there aren’t that many farms in the area we used to be open a number of weeks and now it’s been cut down to one maybe two weekends because of the demand increase as well.”
If you want to snag your tree for the holidays, the Davis family will open their doors at 10am on Black Friday while the Christmas trees last.
