FAIRFIELD, Iowa (KYOU) - Holiday festivities are happening in Fairfield.

Santa Claus and his elves are visiting the town for the next few weeks to meet the kids and learn what they want for Christmas.

Everyone gathered on Friday night to celebrate the start of the season by watching Santa flip the switch to turn the lights on in Central Park. People also joined in on singing Christmas carols with the Fairfield High School Choir.

Teresa Huffman the organizer of the lighting ceremony and Santa’s elves, Mareyn and Kinzley Dunkin say this night was one they were looking forward to. “Seeing all the kids and getting their opportunity to see Santa. Just bringing them holiday cheer. That’s true, we do this every year they get to see Santa Claus they then get their picture taken with him, too.”

Once the kids meet Santa, they could go to his workshop and make their own ornament to take home and put on the tree.

Santa will be in Fairfield every Friday and Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. as well as December 23 at the same time.
