Two weekend fires in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) -The Ottumwa Fire Department had a busy weekend battling two house fires.
The first one took place at 807 Lillian Street around 8:15 pm Friday night.
Firefighters found flames and smoke coming from a bedroom window. Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly.
The home was unoccupied and placarded by the Ottumwa Building and Code Enforcement prior to the fire.
There were no utilities active at the home at the time of the fire. The origin of the fire is a bed mattress and the cause is suspicious at this time.
This fire is under investigation.
The second fire happened on Saturday night at 1011 Glenwood Avenue around 9:30 pm.
Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the backside of the house.
An off-duty firefighter who lived nearby, went inside to check to see if anyone was inside.
No one was home at the time of the fire and the origin of this fire was determined to be in the bathroom.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with no foul play suspected.
