Muscatine Police arrest suspect who allegedly shot officer

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KCRG) - Muscatine Police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a police officer before fleeing police on Friday.

Police say they took 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson of Des Moines into custody on Monday night in Muscatine.

According to a criminal complaint, police attempted to conduct a registration check on the vehicle Jackson was driving on Friday before Jackson fled at a high-rate of speed.

Following a lengthy chase, officers found Jackson running behind Home Base Bar around 5:30 p.m. At that time, shots were fired at officers.

The City of Muscatine placed a shelter-in-place order on Friday night following the shooting out of safety for residents.

No other information has been released.
