IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa City Community School Board is expected to deny Coralville’s request to partner with the city on a $14 million competition swimming pool at its next meeting.
ICCSD would have had to pay the City of Coralville $1.1 million per year for 19 years for the pool lease agreement.
If the project would have moved forward, it would have allowed two of Iowa City’s high schools, West and Liberty, to train and compete at the facility.
The move comes as the district grapples with a looming financial crisis. They’ll soon face the possibility of school closures and layoffs as they attempt to make nearly $14 million in cuts for fiscal year 2028.
