Fugitive convicted in murder case captured year after mistaken jail release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) — A fugitive has been apprehended one year after he was mistakenly released from custody, authorities in Tennessee said.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and U.S. Marshals agents arrested Anthony Green around 1:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Green had been erroneously released from custody in September 2025.

Background on the case
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Green, then 24, was found guilty in September 2025 in a 2020 murder case after a three-day trial.
The jail had not yet received or processed information from the clerk’s office before Green was released in September 2025 after posting a $2,500 bond in an unrelated misdemeanor theft case, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.
Arrest details
Officers, deputies and U.S. Marshals agents acted on tips and executed a search warrant in the 3300 block of Knights Trail in Memphis.
Green, now 25, was taken into custody and transported to the Shelby County Jail. He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and employing a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.
